Baglioluna di Birgi
The BAGLIOLUNA DI BIRGI company, developed in the Knowledge, vaunts centuries of experience which dates back to 1700, year in which the Di Pietra family was already busy in the grapevine's plantation. Only in the middle of the XIX century, Paolo, the great-uncle of Antonio Di Pietra ( actual manager of the company ), perceiving in the wine production that “Gioia del Buon Vivere” - “Joy of Good Living”, decided to begin his own wine-making production in the area of CASALE BIRGI near the Municipality of Marsala (ex docc. 1333).
Therefore the whole family took part in the wine-making production, devoting themself also to national politics: Paolo's son, Honourable Biagio, lawyer of Palermo's court, was Member of Parliament during the XXV and XXVI legislature ( 1919 – 1924 ) as well as vice-consul in Spain.
One of the two Antonio's young sons, actual manager of the company, brings the name of the famous ancestor. Biagio Elio Di Pietra is today the main activator of the Company's commercial dynamics, with the collaboration of his brother Ugo Nicola.

The Story
Paolo Di Pietra was still a young man when, lying on the fresh white bed-sheet of his parent's bed, in a mid-summer afternoon, was pondering about his future. He loved his land and wanted to return this feeling back to it. During his mental wanderings he hitted a clear thought: “being” was more important than “having” and that by “being” he would have had anything, without limits.
He was sleeping now. And he dreamt of a great gateway of an ancient city, shining in the sun like the gold does. He saw a farmhouse on the side of the Birgi river, and bright vats full of red wine. These vats were sprinkling wine in the sky, magically, while the wind that was ruffling Paolo's black hair, was whistling music and dragging leaden clouds in the blue sky drenched with promises. The world's roof seemed to move over his head and under his eyes.
Exactly like when, lying supine, with the the whirr of the bees in his ears, he let himself dangling on the cart full of grapes driven by the day labourers; when the full-bodied August sun starts to dissolve into the sparkling September...That sun, which he loved and that gave energy to his “Divine Tomorrow”, lighted up his eyes.
It would have been himself the maturer becoming of his sunny Tomorrow, rich in culture and wine of his land.
This revealing dream would have been the expression of his concrete gesture of defined will.

The Area
A pleasant stretch of land, slipping gently into the sea, looks and embraces with its fertile nature the Lagoon (Stagnone), rich in ancient history: Phoenician, Arab, Roman and today Unesco heritage site. It is called Mozia–Birgi: an ideal habitat for the vineyards of the BAGLIOLUNA DI BIRGI, where a powerful and pro-active sun, with a soft light and a full and virtuous heat, allows the energy of each little grape to shine, promising a divine future.
In this real natural paradise full of history, was born in early 2002 the BAGLIOLUNA DI BIRGI farm.
Antonio Di Pietra, great grandson of the pioneer Paolo, former professor and school head at the Agricultural Technical Intitute of Marsala, winemaker for passion, decided to turn that fascination into a Company Art, together with his wife and his sons Biagio and Nicola. The ancient echo of a great love for the land and its fruits, becomes today a prestigious product for the whole area, made of living ideas able to go through the heart and to be offered to the world.
The farm BAGLIOLUNA DI BIRGI points to a consistent and measured growth, while respecting and maintaining the high level of care and quality, from harvesting to winemaking, from winekaming to the bottling of its products, created for everyone, to make its customers experts lovers of this god's nectar that comes from native vines of Grillo, Catarratto, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet.
